Principal’s Corner October 2021

Dear Adams Elementary School Families,

We have two quick things to bring to your attention. Thanks for your time in reading this!

Big Give Fundraiser

We are writing to ask if you would consider giving to The Big Give this year. Your student(s) should have brought home a letter with all of the details this weekend, but we can provide some details here, as well.

The Big Give is a direct donation campaign and is our primary fundraiser. It is deliberately simple so it has low overhead costs. You don’t have to sell popcorn, donuts or chocolate bars or bake or run a marathon or ride a bike to raise money.

Funds will be used first for BASIC NEEDS as identified by the school. The proceeds from the Big Give will go directly to Adams Elementary in the form of two grants, totaling over 6,000 hours of support:

• $87,000 for the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum led by our Student and Family Support Teacher (Heather McQuarrie), and for paid playground and lunchroom support staff who keep our kids safe. These positions free up hours for teachers to prepare lessons, connect with families, and give extra attention to students who need it
• $35,000 for math and literacy tutors for all grade levels

If we exceed our goal, additional funds will support other PTA programs and expenses. We know that this is a big ask, so please give what you can.

You can give online or send in your check to “Adams PTA” with your pledge card by Saturday, October 30th. If your company matches funds, it will double your impact! Your company may have a form to fill out for this. Please also ask friends and family to contribute.

Thank you so much for your support. It makes a BIG difference!

Carpooling during the bus route shutdown

The district just notified us of a service for families who would like to carpool or walk as a group until the buses resume. We have signed up as a school but have to ask families to access and use the online platform (versus Adams doing it for you). The service is called RideshareOnline. Here’s the link:
