School involvement matters!  There is a great deal of research that demonstrates that children whose parents are involved with their school do better in school.  Becoming a school volunteer is a great way to become involved!

There are many volunteer opportunities at Adams - many of which do not require a significant investment of time or require that you are present during the school day. Volunteers are not only greatly appreciated, they are essential part of what makes Adams a great school!

    Immediate Needs

The grounds at our school depend on volunteer helpers for their upkeep and maintenance.  We are looking for a Grounds Chairperson to lead other parent volunteers throughout the year to keep everything on school grounds running smoothly.  This is a position that doesn’t require a lot of time in the school, with work parties happening on the weekend (one in Fall, one in Spring).  You’ll also get to be a part of planning the new playground!  For a full job description or for any questions, please email Heidi & Julie at ptavolunteer@adamselementary.org

We are also looking for a Legislative Liaison person to be the heart of PTA student advocacy work.  This person will keep the PTA and school members informed about relevant political events, issues and ballot initiatives.  They will also  organize parents as necessary for board meetings, etc. Training for this position will be provided by the Seattle PTA.

    Ready to Volunteer?

Take the volunteer survey first. Based on the interests you identify, the PTA Volunteer Coordinator will contact you to offer you positions that match your interests.

If your volunteer activities take place in the classroom, on a field trip, or require direct contact with children, please complete the following:

    1. Complete the Seattle Public Schools Volunteer Application. The application is available in multiple languages.
    2. Complete the Adult Sexual Misconduct Prevention online course.
    3. Turn in your completed application in the school office.  Bring a Washington State photo ID so that we can complete your background check.
    4. Read the volunteer handbook.  The handbook is also available in hard copy at the school office.

You can access the forms and training on the Volunteer page of the Seattle Public Schools Website. http://www.seattleschools.org/volunteer

Please note that your application must be approved before you can begin volunteering. It takes 3-5 days to process completed volunteer applications.
