Before and After School Activities Program (BASAP)

Adams PTA

Welcome Adams Elementary Families!

The Before and After School Activities Program (BASAP) provides enriching activities in art, music, language, theater, sports and craft to enhance our children’s educational experience, strengthen their love of learning, add to the sense of belonging across grade levels, and encourage students to succeed while having fun pursuing new interests.

***SPRING BASAP NEWS***

New BASAP Offerings for Fall 2017

As this school year wraps up, we’re already deep in preparation for a full and exciting lineup next fall! In addition to the existing activities offered this spring session, new fall programs include Hip-Pop (dance), Rainy Day Dinner Club, Zumba for Kids, Yoga, and Outdoor Wilderness class (Outdoor Wilderness occurs outside, right here on the Adams and BCC campuses).

Ballard Community Center next door will also add new activities after school. In addition to their popular “Kids at Clay,” they will offer both Intro to Sports and a Jewelry Making program. All three of these classes include a pickup from Adams right after school.

Family Survey Results
As a program fueled by volunteers, the BASAP program provides enrichment opportunities rather than functioning as child care. The survey sent out this spring indicated that most parents preferred the BASAP program as the current, more affordable 8 weeks, or felt that either 8 or 10 weeks were fine for their families. We will continue to run 8 week programs next year, as we have in the past.

As always, scholarships will be available.

Extra and Longer Offerings for Early Release Wednesdays
With next year’s weekly early release Wednesdays in mind, BASAP will run more classes and clubs on Wednesdays to add enrichment and stimulation opportunities to students’ shorter school days.

Most Wednesday BASAP classes will be longer (Rainy Day Dinner Club, Comic Art, and Outdoor Wilderness), with one shorter Zumba for Kids class.

To help those who need even longer Wednesday child care for more consecutive weeks, we have partnered with BCC for a Wednesday-only after school program.  This “Wacky on Wednesday” program provides a snack, down time, a variety of fun enrichment activities, and active time.

This program runs each Wednesday from 9/13 - 12/13, from 2:25p.m. - 5p.m. Registration for this offering begins on July 18 at noon through Seattle Parks & Recreation. Contact BCC directly for scholarship information.

Washington Karate Association in Ballard also offers a pick-up at Adams and allows for one day a week, though they recommend coming more often in order to improve Karate skills. The WKA program provides more than just the Karate class during their after school program. They supply a snack as well as space for homework, down time, and other activities. The WKA program runs until 6 p.m.

General Information about BASAP:

There are three - eight week sessions offered per year: Fall, Winter and Spring. Classes are offered Monday through Friday, including early release days. Classes are not offered on ‘no school days,’ but are made up during subsequent weeks. After school classes range from one hour to two hours and meet once a week. Before school classes typically meet twice a week,

Scholarships are available for all classes.  Please contact the school counselor to request a scholarship.

This PTA enrichment program could not be possible without an awesome team of parent volunteers. Volunteers are needed to check students in/out and observe classes. Volunteers receive up to $100 in tuition reimbursement each session. Please email if you are available to volunteer for these after school hours or would like to assist in the logistics.

Classes fill quickly, so sign up early!  Sorry, no late registrations will be accepted.

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellation/change during open registration dates= full refund
  • Cancellation/change after registration closes= no credit or refund
  • In case of emergency or insufficient number of registrations, BASAP reserves the right to cancel a class and refund the participants in full.

Feel free to contact afterschoolprog@adamselementary.org with any questions, suggestions for classes or to volunteer.

Sincerely,

Anne Livingston
